e.tv has introduced a new chapter to its primetime schedule with the arrival of Land of Mills and Money, a new local drama that premiered on Monday, 31 August at 7PM.

Set in the fictional Mpumalanga town of Shonalanga, the series takes viewers into a community where land, wealth and power are concentrated in the hands of a select few. Against this backdrop, Land of Mills and Money weaves together crime, family conflict, romance and the consequences of choices that cannot easily be undone.

At the centre of the story is Phiwe, played by Nelisiwe Sibiya, a determined young police officer whose life changes dramatically following a fateful encounter during a heist. The incident leaves her carrying a dangerous secret that she must keep hidden from both her family and her colleagues.

Keeping that secret becomes increasingly difficult when township matriarch Mazwi Mhlongo, played by Winnie Ntshaba, discovers an opportunity to use Phiwe’s situation to her own advantage.

Phiwe’s troubles are further complicated by her relationship with Muzi Mhlongo, played by Zamani Mbatha. Although he is the man she truly loves, the decision she made during the heist creates a barrier between them, setting the stage for a complicated love story that unfolds alongside the show’s larger battles over family, justice and power.

A Familiar Cast Takes on Shonalanga

The drama brings together an ensemble of established South African actors, with Nelisiwe Sibiya, Winnie Ntshaba and Zamani Mbatha joined by Themba Ndaba as Melusi and Jo-Anne Reyneke as Thembi.

The cast also includes Sphelele Luthuli as Khwezi, Mbali Ngiba as Gog’Sindi, Kenneth Nkosi as Pastor Caiphus and Gcinile Nkosi as Mam’Dee.

With its combination of established performers and interconnected characters, the series places family dynamics at the heart of the story while exploring how secrets and competing ambitions can reshape relationships.

Love, Lies, Justice and Redemption

According to e.tv, Land of Mills and Money explores themes of love, lies, justice and redemption, with Phiwe’s secret serving as the catalyst for much of the conflict.

As the consequences of the heist begin to follow her into the rest of her life, Phiwe must navigate the increasingly difficult task of protecting herself while maintaining the trust of those closest to her.

Her predicament also opens the door to larger questions about loyalty, morality and the lengths people are prepared to go to protect what they have.

For e.tv, the arrival of the series is also part of a broader focus on strengthening its weekday primetime offering.
