It is officially the end of an era for Isitha: The Enemy.

e.tv has announced that the popular drama series will come to an end on 23 April 2027, bringing more than three years of family drama, betrayals, power struggles and plenty of chaos to a close.

The announcement comes as e.tv continues to usher in what it describes as a new wave of storytelling on the channel. Isitha: The Enemy is currently the only legacy drama from e.tv’s previous generation of shows still airing, making its departure a significant one for the channel.

But before we say goodbye, there is still plenty of drama coming.

From The Black Door to Isitha: The Enemy

Isitha: The Enemy began as a continuation of the world first introduced through The Black Door.

After The Black Door came to an end, its characters and story world were transformed into Isitha: The Enemy in 2023, with the Sokhulu family at the centre of a new chapter.

While it may have started as a spin-off, Isitha eventually established an identity of its own, with storylines centred around family, ambition, betrayal, survival and the fight for power.

Along the way, the production also received recognition from both the South African Film and Television Awards and the Royalty Soapie Awards, including recognition for its original music and score, cinematography and lighting.

Helga Palmer, Group Head of Content Development & Strategy at eMedia Investments, says the show has played an important role in e.tv’s storytelling journey.

“Isitha: The Enemy has been an important part of e.tv’s storytelling journey, and we are incredibly proud of the impact it has made,” Palmer said.

“As a spinoff of The Black Door, to becoming a powerful story in its own right, the series has entertained audiences, introduced memorable characters and demonstrated the strength of South African storytelling.”

There Is Still Plenty of Drama Before the Finale

Thankfully, the announcement does not mean things are about to slow down in Mapholoba.

Instead, it sounds like Isitha: The Enemy plans to make the most of its remaining months on air.

The upcoming storyline will take viewers deeper into the Bulldozed storyline, where the destruction of shacks threatens the lives and stability of an entire community.

The consequences will bring conflict and heartbreak, and e.tv has already teased death, unexpected twists and even more new faces before the final episode.

Mandla N, Co-Founder and Executive Producer of Black Brain Pictures, promises that the series intends to leave viewers with exactly the kind of storytelling they have come to expect from it.

“As we approach the final chapter, we want to leave viewers with the same spirit that has defined the show from the beginning: bold storytelling, unexpected twists and characters who refuse to be forgotten,” he said.

“There is still a lot of stories left to tell before we say goodbye, and audiences can expect the final stretch to be every bit as dramatic, emotional and unpredictable as the journey that brought us here.”

KB Motsilanyane Is Joining Isitha: The Enemy

And speaking of new faces, the show is not done adding to its cast either.

Acclaimed actress and musician Keabetswe “KB” Motsilanyane is joining Isitha: The Enemy as Dineo Mtshali.

Dineo is a successful fashion designer from Soweto who has spent years building a life away from the chaos of her past. She is described as beautiful, elegant and fiercely independent, with no problem speaking her mind or standing her ground.

And, of course, nobody arrives in Mapholoba simply to live a peaceful life.

Dineo’s arrival is set to shake up Mapholoba’s world and bring even more drama as the show moves towards its final chapter.

So, What Comes After Isitha: The Enemy?

While e.tv has confirmed the end of Isitha, it has not yet revealed exactly what will replace the drama in its 8:30PM slot.

What the broadcaster is promising, however, is a new generation of dramas featuring a mix of established and emerging South African talent.

“The conclusion of Isitha: The Enemy is not simply an ending, but a reflection of our commitment to continually evolve and give viewers stories that surprise, move and engage them,” Palmer said.

So while we now know when the Sokhulu family’s story will end, we don’t quite know what e.tv has waiting on the other side.

And with more than seven months of Isitha: The Enemy still ahead of us, there is plenty of time for the show to cause a little more chaos before we finally say goodbye.

Isitha: The Enemy airs weekdays at 8:30PM on e.tv, with the series finale set for 23 April 2027.
